Christian fellowship is so much more than a Sunday service!

At Mauka-Makai Windward we encourage everyone to be part of a small group. It is in these gatherings that real spiritual growth takes place as we encourage one another to live in the grace of Jesus.

Anyone associated with Mauka-Makai Windward may start a small group that engages people both inside and outside of church. These groups typically gather around a common interest and are sort of a "club" or "Hui".

Some typical Huis would include sports teams, book clubs, service teams, sewing groups, etc.

Ho'ola is a Hawaiian term that means to save, to nurture, to bring wholeness, to give life, and to revive. The term ho'ola accurately describes the ministry of Jesus who came to seek and to save the lost. Luke 19:10. We are under construction, a work in progress as the Lord restores us to the wholeness He originally intended (for more, go to The Christian Faith and Our Core Values). The Lord works out this construction process within a loving, transparent community of people who love and serve one another. That's what a ho'ola group is all about, people growing and being built up through the grace of God and the love of the group so that each is equipped to love God and serve others by bringing God's grace and wholeness to them. You don't have to worry about not having it all together, since none of us have it all together. . . . yet. On this side of heaven, we are a work in progress, but when the Lord takes us home to Him, we will be made complete.

If you would like to be a part of a ho'ola and this construction process, call 358-2945 or email us at pastordave@mauka-makai.org.

When Jesus reveals Himself to you and you experience the unconditional love (GRACE) that He gives, you want to share it with others. Jesus died for everyone, but not everyone has received Him as their Savior. Jesus wants everyone to be with Him in heaven for eternity, but not everyone will be there. We care because He cares. We want everybody to experience the Living Lord Jesus.

Aloha,

My name is David Willweber and I am the pastor for Mauka Makai
Ministries-Windward. It is a joy to be a part of the MMW ohana. We are
a diverse, friendly and loving community. I believe our informal and
relaxed Sunday morning celebration reflects Kailua. Bottom line, Mauka Makai Windward is "a fun place to get serious about God!"

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I journeyed to Concordia
University in Seward, NE, to receive a BS in teaching with a double
major in Theology and Sociology and a MS in Family Life Ministry. I
taught in Baltimore for 6 years before moving to Oahu in 1998 to teach
Christian Life and direct chapel at the Lutheran High School of Hawaii.
In 2000 I began ongoing theological and practical training with the
pastors of our mother church, Good Shepherd Church. In November of
2003 I was installed as the church planter for MMW. For the last two
years I have worked part time as a pastor and part time as a teacher.
In the summer of 2006 I will leave the teaching ministry after 14 years
in order to dedicate myself full time to pastoring and preparing for
future church plants.

My wife Marie has been my partner in life and ministry for 12 years. We
sang in the same university choir and met in 1990 on a choir tour in
Germany. She taught high school English and directed dramas until we
were blessed with children and she chose to stay home to care for them.

Our son Micah was born in August of 2002. His name means "Who is like
the Lord?" and serves as a constant reminder of our awesome and gracious
God. Our daughter Anna was born in February of 2005. Her name means
"grace" and reminds us of the depth of love and mercy that Jesus has for
all people, most clearly shown by His sacrificial death for your sins
and mine.

Join us for an Alpha course or for worship on Sunday at Kainalu
Elementary School at 9:00 a.m. Please feel free to give me a call at
358-2945 or email me at pastordave@mauka-makai.org.

Aloha, Dave Willweber

By the grace, power, and providence of the Lord we have started a church planting adventure. We hope to plant 10 church-planting churches of 200 members each in 10 years. These churches will be planted both locally on the windward side of Oahu, the other islands, and globally around the world as the Lord directs and enables us. Humanly speaking this could be seen as impossible, but our God delights in making the impossible possible! Because of who our God is, we boldly walk by faith in obedience to Him and His church planting plans. Come join us on this adventure!

Our worship is both Jesus-centered and people-oriented. Jesus-centered because He is the focal point and He deserves all the glory as our Savior, Lord, and friend. People-oriented because the relaxed and informal worship is led by a variety of individuals and is designed to meet needs and make life applications. We meet at Kainalu Elementary School Cafeteria (see map ), 165 Kaiholu Street, Kailua

We believe that we all need to be connected to each other beyond Sunday, where only brief "hi's" and "bye's" can be exchanged. In additions to Sunday morning, we get together during the week in homes as "Ho'ola Groups" so that we can fellowship with each other and apply the Bible to real-life issues.

Ho’ola Groups are the heart of Mauka-Makai Ministries. It is in these small groups that true Christian fellowship is experienced as members worship, pray, and care for one another.

Ho'ola is a Hawaiian term that means to save, to nurture, to bring wholeness, to give life, and to revive.

Who We Are And Whose We Are . . . THE TRINITY: The Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is eternal, almighty, holy, mysterious and at the same time, He is loving and intimate with His people. SALVATION: We are saved only through our Triune God's grace, by Jesus' death and resurrection. BIBLE: The Bible is the true, indestructible, incorruptible, living Word of God and vital for faith and life. MEANS OF GRACE: God's grace is present and active among His people through His Word, Baptism, and the Lord's Supper. EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN: We are a Gospel centered people (Evangelical), who hold to the profound Scriptural truths that the Lutheran Reformation restored. PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS: Every Christian, not just pastors and church leaders, has a life calling to do God's work.

. . . What We're AboutTHE GREAT COMMANDMENT: Christ calls us to love God with our entire being and to love our neighbors as ourselves. THE GREAT COMMISSION: The driving passion of this congregation is Jesus' command to make disciples both locally and globally. This passion decisively shapes values 2-5. EVANGELISM: Together we share the Gospel of Jesus through the witness of our words and lives. CHURCH PLANTING: We plant churches that, in turn, plant churches. TRANS-CULTURAL MISSIONS: We are commissioned to make disciples of all people groups and are committed to help plant indigenous church planting churches among unreached peoples. TWO-WINGED-CHURCH: As a church body, we experience Jesus' Presence, Power, and Purpose in our lives through celebration and ho'ola groups. CELEBRATION: Worship is God meeting with His ohana; it's joy-filled, relevant, and done in such a way that the visitor can experience His reality and understand His Word. HO'OLA GROUPS: God's people gather in small groups to care for one another, to grow in discipleship, to reach pre-Christians, to mature leaders, and to multiply. AUTHENTIC CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: Since church membership is a living covenant with God and fellow believers, we are each deeply involved in the mission of the congregation. SPIRITUAL GIFTS: The Holy Spirit gifts every Christian with a gift that is used to build up the body and to facilitate the mission. The use of each Christian's gift(s) is essential to the proper functioning of the body. SANCTIFICATION: The Holy Spirit molds us into the likeness of Jesus and prepares us for His mission through various ways, including the Means of Grace (see #4 top) and the following: BIBLE STUDY: Regular study of God's Word is indispensable. PRAYER: When we pray the Holy Spirit's power is released in our ministry to one another and to the world.

Aloha and Welcome to Mauka-Makai Ministries WindwardWe are excited that you are curious about who we are as Mauka Makai Ministries Windward and we are curious about you too. Our team was obedient to the Lord by starting this new Christian church in Kailua on Christmas Eve of 2004. The Lord has been adding people to our ohana ever since and there is room for you. You will find that we are a relaxed and informal, yet purposeful ohana. You are welcome to join us for our Sunday morning celebration anytime. We also invite and welcome you to one of our ho'ola groups. Very briefly, a ho'ola is a group of individuals who come together to be strengthened in their relationship with the Lord and encouraged to follow His ways. Go to Ho'ola Groups to learn more about ho'olas and meeting times. You will be right at home meeting with one of our ho'ola groups because they are filled with people from diverse backgrounds, including a wide range of ages, ethnicity, family background, upbringing, and life experiences. No matter who you are and where you have been, you are welcome with us. Jesus has extended His welcoming love, grace, and aloha to us, and we in turn want to share His love, grace, and aloha with you.May the Lord richly bless you, The Mauka Makai Windward OhanaFeel free to email us at pastordave@mauka-makai.org or call 358-2945.

Mauka-Makai churches are a communities of believers who follow Jesus Christ. We seek to love, respect and care for one another as a demonstration of His love for us.Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in our area are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant. The missing element has been knowing Jesus personally and experiencing the transformed life only He can bring. We exist for our non-members and desire to develop lasting relationships with those who are seeking peace & truth.

GOD . . .. . . loves you and wants to be your friend. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3: 16; NIV). . . has a wonderful plan for your life. "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" (Jeremiah 29: 11; NIV)YOU . . .. . . are separated from God by sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3: 23; NIV). . . therefore cannot know His love and plan. "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." (Isaiah 59: 2; NIV)JESUS . . .. . . is God who became man, the only bridge between Himself and you. "Phillip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.' Jesus answered: 'Don't you know me, Phillip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say "Show us the Father'?" (John 14; 8-9; NIV) . . . "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" (John 14: 6; NIV). . . took the consequences of your sins by dying in your place, and rose from the dead to give you a new life and to carry out His wonderful plan for you. "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5: 8; NIV)FAITH . . .. . . is receiving Jesus as your personal Savior and Friend. "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." (John 1: 12; NIV). . . includes sorrow over sin and turning away from a self-centered life . . . "Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2: 38; NIV). . . and trusting Jesus for forgiveness and for power to live henceforth for Him alone. "And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." (II Corinthians 5: 15; NIV)LETTING JESUS INTO YOUR LIFE. . .. . . can be as simple as a prayer asking him in. "Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins and rising from the dead to give me a new life. I gladly receive You as my Savior and Lord! Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take the management of my life. Make me the person You want me to be. Let others meet You through me. Amen."Now, join us at Mauka-Makai Windward as we come together for life-giving adventures in discovery and revelation, prayer and fellowship, ministry and missions, and praise and worship of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

We encourage people to know the love of God and to share that love with others. We provide a place for people to meet Jesus Christ personally and to be nurtured and grow in their faith. Real people, with real faith, in real community can change their world.
